El Salvador is a sovereign country in Central America located on the Pacific Coastline. The capital is the city of San Salvador.
In 2014, the estimated population was registered at 6,279,783 inhabitants. It has a warm tropical climate. El Salvador borders with Guatemala to the west and Honduras to the north and east. In the southeast, the Gulf of Fonseca separates El Salvador from Nicaragua, and the Pacific Ocean is to the south.
El Salvador is divided into 14 departments, which are grouped into three geographic zones: western, central and eastern. The cities of Santa Ana and San Miguel are important population clusters in this country.
